Its been nearly 2 weeks since I got hold of the batch of baby Terengganus. The fries had grown a bit and seem stronger as compared to when they first arrived. 6 casualties so far due to stressed. Fries did not eat from day 1 and perished from lack of food.
Last year I was sold 5 baby Diplogramma from an unscrupulous trader (CG) with the same condition. Fish perish within a week. So beware of conman traders who do not quarantine their fish and out to make a quick buck. To make matter worse I did complain in a local snakehead group but unfortunately the admin backed the unscrupulous trader and booted me out from the group. I think that snakehead group is just a con group to fish newbies. Anyway I'm never a fan of groups who allows trading as it automatically kills off knowledge sharing.
Back to our projects, I've split the fish into 3 groups:
Group A
Group A is the biggest tank I can afford, PH4.9, 8 hours low output tanning light, 15 Tails. The fish will be subject to low output tanning above water.
Filtration is a mini eheim with quite a flow.
Group B
Group B - Natural indirect sunlight packed with water weed, PH5.5, 6 tails. The fish will be kept traditional style. No filtrations other than water weed.
Group C
Group C - In darkness, feeding time they are only subject to room ambient light, PH5, 6 Tails. Fish will be kept in darkness most of its time other than room ambient light. No filtration, Java fern and Java moss. Interestingly group C fish kills all the ghost shrimp. I've no idea why they are more aggressive in darkness.
Food will be the same for all of them, frozen and freeze dried blood-worms for the time being until they are bigger. 4 meals a day. All 3 groups are kepts with ghost shrimp as cleaner crew.
I still cannot confirm the species of the fries as they are rather small, no ocell had appeared neither in the tail nor fin. Nothing much to do and time seem to move so slowly when you are in a hurry. But in the mean time I will treat them as marulioides and we continue with the experiment. I do hope I dont get disappointed if this batch turns out to be C. Striata.
The idea of this experiment is to see which technique will bring out the best in Malaysian Marulioides. Traditional method or the unconventional method. I've never really did a test until now.
Fries are stronger
Stressed out fry and died from hunger, that was how the Diplogramma looked like when I got them, only the head is visible.
Sand for all 3 experiment is RIO Amazon, any white or yellowish sand will do. Bright sand promotes flowers for young fish. Try yr best not to have bare bottom tank. Substrate promotes beneficial bacteria and in turned will help yr fish performance.
