Its been one and a half month since I took care of this batch of marulioides yes they are confirm to be that of Channa Marulioides and we also know that the band comes first before the ocell did. They are all 3" long now and feeding is frozen feeder fish.
The batch in the standard set up tank is at PH3.9, the band can be seen but still very faded the black part is strong.
The batch in the dark tank is at PH4, the band is somewhat clearer, and one thing I notice about fish in this tank is they dont really flock together and they are aggressive towards each others. Appetite is not great as they get nervous when I on the light for feeding.
The batch in the sunlight tank is at PH3.9 and they are the brightest of the lot, the band was clearly seen. In fact I noticed flowers had begun to bloom.
How to spot flowers blooming and heres the technique. This is I would say the first impression as I observed the lot everyday for few hours and they are taking so much of my life!!!! Just yesterday I saw 2 flashes from 2 fish.
Take note of the white shimmer especially when they turned or when you look at the fish from bottom angle. The shimmer is the beginning of the scales turning into white or flowers as they are called nowadays.
From there onwards it is up to your skill to bloom more flowers or to have them all going away.
Its quite fun to watch them progressing, especially on the flower development. You stared at them for hours waiting for the flash in front of you and then they got lost in the group of fish and you wondered which fish was it lol.
So temporary we have the group in the bright tank that is first to display band and the first to display flowers. I will continue with the experiment so we will know in the end which performed better. All 3 of the tank is hoovering around PH3.5 - 4.5. All are fed with frozen feeder fish.
From the faded band I can conclude they are the Terengganu var from the thin and uneven size bar and the top section that tapered downwards. Another hint is the band right at the bottom does not go horizontal.
