Terengganu Project update Oct

Its been one and a half month since I took care of this batch of marulioides yes they are confirm to be that of Channa Marulioides and we also know that the band comes first before the ocell did. They are all 3" long now and feeding is frozen feeder fish.  The batch in the standard set up tank is at PH3.9, the band can be seen but still very faded the black part is strong.  The batch in the dark tank is at PH4, the band is somewhat clearer, and one thing I notice about fish in this tank is they dont really flock together and they are aggressive towards each others. Appetite is not great as they get nervous when I on the light for feeding. The batch in the sunlight tank is at PH3.9 and they are the brightest of the lot, the band was clearly seen. In fact I noticed flowers had begun to bloom. How to spot flowers blooming and heres the technique. This is I would say the first impression as I observed the lot everyday for few hours and they are taking so

Lapradei Experiment

I've always been fascinated with the PBB var Turkana when I first laid my eyes on them in youtube. The thing about them is they swim, yes they swim like a regular fish unlike any lower jaw bichir you see. What intrigue me is why do they possessed this ability when the rest of the clan do not? Could it be because of the depth at lake Turkana or is there something else?  I've been studying the water and the lake with all possible information that I can find online. Polypterus Lapradei enjoys swimming. When the batch of Lapradei had successfully learned to controlled their buoyancy with their lung, they swim a lot, and swimming no longer becomes a struggle.  I was patiently waiting for a batch of wild caught PBB fry for more than a year but with no luck. Finally I bought a batch of captive breed Lapradei Fry at 3" for my experiment seeing them being the closest thing I can find. What I found about the water of lake Turkana surprises me, it is a salt lake,

A neat trick

Something I would like to share...my butterfly fish taking pellet and oso fruit flies supplement by hanging a pc of banana till it rot.  Will attract plenty of flies which eventually crashed into the water for the butterfly food, all FOC As u can see they loved hanging around the rotting banana.  Learned this trick during my mantis days from my good ol fren Sino.

How to DIY a vivarium part 2

After the first project I was unsatisfied with my first vivarium and I've decided to redo the whole thing with a different layout.  The bottom part Ive decided to use cement so a wire mesh to form the shape Cement the cover Final layer I use the same colored grout  The waterfall part I will use polystyrene This time Ive made more space for plants  The waterfall is more natural so as the background

The Terengganu project update 1

Terengannu baby fries have since double in size, they're like eating machines. The band or shall I call it blotches have begun appearing. The black part is slowly fading away. The ocell is still nowhere to be seen. Should we see the ocell first or the band? this I've no idea, we shall witness this progress. Interestingly the fish that are kept in the dark are very light in color. Band or blotches begin appearing The batch that are kept in the dark are very light in color unlike those kept with light. The dark batch is also the lowest PH group at PH3.5. Notice the poop just remain there and wont disintegrate.

How to select a Kalimantan

Today we will discussed about how to choose a nice Kalimantan seeing so many had pm to asked me this question Choose the fish with the most flowers if you're into flowers, I'm the type who prefers beautiful band so band is important to me. I will choose the piece that have the most band and nice band pattern. The band should extend all the way to the belly unlike your usual marulioides which have band only halfway. The unique features of the kalimantan is that they have bands that extend all the way south. The 3 back fin should have batik pattern and preferably when flare they should over lap each other like a plakat fighting fish. Happy shopping

Malaysia Golden Arowana Challenge

This project was back in 2014, Kitty Lai wanted to know if I still have it to groom Arowana fish. So I picked a so so XB which I bid only for RM400. Its not a fish which you will find appetizing, the fish has slight PLJ, crossed barbel, very thin/translucent gold.  unformed pearlies  Very transluscent gold  crossed barbel Pictures above are what the seller sent me  Fished Arrived First Day fish in my tank First fixed was having the barbel cut and take note of the slight PLJ PLJ - Protruding Lower Jaw 2 weeks later in the dark tank, gold become more intense and I needed to pump the fish up to reduce the PLJ effect. Tanning project begins and when I went to find for tanning lights only did I realized how long it had been since I left the Arowana scene. TFC factory had closed down, for your information TFC T8 light is one of the best tanning light for arowana. I asked all the shop and they say everyone is using LED tanning light. Forget about
